Delicious Downtown Eateries

August 07, 2018

It doesn’t get much more picturesque and beautiful than Historic Downtown Covington. But as scenic as this area may be, the restaurant scene is the true shining star. With everything from fresh pasta to frog legs, you’ll be thrilled that this cluster of gourmet restaurants is just 10 minutes from your front door.

Here’s a few of our favorite downtown eateries that you’re sure to enjoy!

Lola – located in a historic train depot, this restaurant features gourmet Southern and seafood dishes and a beautiful outdoor seating area. A popular lunch spot known for its simple but delicious menu of soups, salads, and light fare. Whether you’re stopping by for a lunch with friends or dinner for two, be sure to order their famous frosé!

Del Porto – this elegant neighborhood Italian restaurant is perfect for a date night or celebration with loved ones. Frequently rated as one of The Times-Picayune’s top ten restaurants in the New Orleans area, you’re sure to go home happy (and full) after a meal of eggplant and goat cheese ravioli, spaghetti pomodoro, or veal osso bucco.

Toad Hallow – a busy, low-key cafe just off Boston Street, Toad Hallow offers a wide variety of made-from-scratch dishes including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. With entrees ranging from beans and rice combos to Kobe-Wagyu beef burgers, there’s something for every taste at this downtown staple.

Oxlot 9 – located in the beautifully restored Southern Hotel, Oxlot 9 serves up delicious gulf-inspired fare. Known for its expertly-crafted takes on classic Southern food like fried frog legs, tamales, and roasted snapper, you’ll enjoy the creative take on many regional favorites. And be sure to check out the dessert menu!

Meribo – a more recent addition to the downtown food scene, this casual but chic eatery has quickly become a Northshore favorite. Serving a vast array of familiar Italian dishes with local touches like crawfish gnocchi and BBQ shrimp linguini. But the main attraction at Meribo is sure to be the pizza, with everything from classic margherita to its famous meridionale – featuring smoked pork shoulder, collard greens, and caramelized onions.
